Classroom Rules and Expectations
General Seventh Grade Policies
In addition to those outlined below, all students are expected to follow all policies, procedures, school rules, and regulations stated in any handbooks and other communication issued by St. Martin of Tours.
Log Sheet
The student log is the communication link between teacher, parent, and student. Please check the log each night. Logs are to be signed every Thursday. Students will receive a 100 for a homework grade in each subject, and each log entry will deduct five points from this grade. Tampering with, changing a grade, or changing a note by the teacher will constitute a disciplinary referral.
Homework
Students are responsible for recording the homework assignments to be completed in each subject. Please sign all homework. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia recommends 120 minutes of study and written homework, to be completed at home, for seventh grade.
Tests
Varied assessments, at least five per trimester, will be given regularly. Students are given advance notice of all assessments. All tests must be signed, in ink, by a parent or guardian.
Folders
All tests and important papers are to be kept in a folder for each subject.
Conduct and Discipline
Mutual respect and cooperation characterize interaction in a Catholic school. This is a Christ-centered zone. Notations to the student log will be made for each conduct infraction. Referrals will be issued for serious or repeated infractions.
Miscellaneous
Any time a student is absent, they must have a note when they return listing the reasons and dates for absence. All homework during absences may be made up upon the student's return to school. All money submitted to the school is to be in an envelope with the student's name, room number, and amount enclosed.
IMPORTANT
Each student's academic performance and behavior in the seventh grade are extremely important when applying for high school admission and scholarships. High schools review seventh grade performance and expect recommendations from seventh grade teachers.

Academic Policies for ELA and Science
For ELA and Science, the two subjects I will teach in Room 406 to all seventh grade students, I expect all students to:
Students are responsible for taking their own notes in ELA and Science.
ELA: ELA (English Language Arts) consists of reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and spelling. Students will have assessments in each of those categories, including writing assignments, tests, quizzes, projects, and presentations. Assignments are weighted based on their frequency and significance and each assignment will have a point value. For example, the final draft of a five-paragraph essay will have more points than a vocabulary quiz. Students will also receive a Communication grade in ELA, which is related to their speaking, listening, participation, and presentation skills.
Science: We will begin the year studying biology/life science. Science assessments will include tests, quizzes, lab reports, and other projects. We will do periodic lab activities in Science, and after each one, students are expected to complete a lab report. Assignments and assessments are weighted, and each one will have a point value. For example, a test worth 100 points will have a larger impact on a student's final grade than a quiz worth 25 points.
- Work diligently in class
- Conduct themselves in a respectful manner
- Complete all assignments, in-class and homework, on time
- Bring home all graded assessments the day they are distributed, and return them signed by a parent/guardian the next day
- Arrive for class on time and with the correct materials
- Study for their assessments
- Act as young men and women for others
